Although we are headquartered in Los Angeles, as an affiliate member of NYMCG we now enjoy a transparency into the marketplace via interaction with our peers that was previously unavailable to us.
Before membership, we mainly relied on telephone inquiries to verify client credit worthiness. Now, through NYMCG, we have access to a secure, members-only email discussion board that allows us to discuss payment history and related issues with others in the industry. The discussion board is controlled and monitored, ensuring the legitimacy of all posts. And membership is made available to affiliates at a reduced rate.
The ability to easily interact with other professionals in the media industry carries two huge benefits.
We have access to information regarding existing relationships between other media outlets and our current and prospective clients. This, in addition to our self-gathered data, allows us to make better informed credit decisions.
Another plus, and one that is especially significant to me, is the opportunity to discuss specific issues and challenges with some of the most knowledgeable and respected credit professionals in the media industry. Getting their input and advice on situations I am dealing with has enabled me to do my job more effectively and with a little less stress.
Since joining the NYMCG in 2010 our confidence and comfort level regarding establishing credit and understanding risk has improved exponentially. When it comes to a credit decision, we value the group’s interaction and advice, whether by email, phone conversation, or the monthly meetings.
The benefits of the credit group most definitely outweigh the cost of membership – not only do we save time but we get “real world” feedback on credit and collection issues.
